Paramotoring meeting 14th June 2009- Next steps

Following the very successful meeting on 14th June several motions were put forward that the attendees agreed upon and would be keen to implement as soon as possible. In order to facilitate this, the group needs to elect a steering group (committee) from it’s members. It was proposed that the Ireland PPG platform would be the best method to do this. As you are probably aware there are many people on the forum- all of which are not active flyers, and some not even living in Ireland.

Its important that the group reflects the ‘voice of Irish PPG’ so we would like the forum members to apply for membership of the ‘transition’ group. Membership is free, and can be applied for by sending Gordon a ‘PM’ message or email. Please note that to become a member you must be an active or training PPG pilot- residing on the ‘Island’ of Ireland- the users full name and location must also be provided.

As a member of the transition group, you will be able to nominate yourself or fellow members for the steering group positions, and participate in the election of the steering group members.

Members will have exclusive access to a ‘members only’ section of the forum in which the nominations/voting will take place.

The forum URL is- http://irelandppg.freeforums.org/

I would encourage as many people as possible to register on the forum - as it is a wealth of information on various topics, and as yet is probably the most central focal point on PPG in Ireland.

If you don’t want to join the forum but would like to be a member of the transition group-with voting rights, then please email Gordon directly – mail@gordondunn.co.uk

The first tasks will be as follows-

Nominate positions for the steering group
Elect the steering group
Discuss and implement the name of the ‘transition group’

selfnomination????

Just something I'm curious about. I have been politically active all my working life, I spent a lot of my time as a trade union activist in Scandinavia.
During that time I never came accross the practice of 'nominating oneself'. As far as I know it is a practice unique to Ireland. It is certainly not a possibility in most other countries of the world, be it in local, national or communal society (excepting a few bananna republics). The reason for the basic rule of not being able to nominate yourself is that it effectively eradicates the nomination of people not favoured by the majority. And after all it is the majority that rule in a democracy! Is it not?

I'd like to propose a slight amendment to the method suggested for nomination: That no person be allowed to nominate his/her self. This would facilitate a smoother means of selection of the 'transition' group in that there most likely would not be as many nominees to choose from.

Also, because Silence means Consent, I would like to ask the users of this forum to say Yes or No to the above. Or maybe the moderators of this forum might put it up on a 'poll'.

Cheers Paddy.

Paddy,

No need for concern, I think the idea is you nominate yourself or others who might wish to 'stand for election'. Not everyone is interested in being involved at this level! This is not the actual election of the steering group!!

We have to start somewhere, the question at this point, is who wants to be involved in a 'steering group', not who is on it? :D
