Paul Mahony

Hello Everyone!

My name is Paul Mahony and I am the CFI of the first overseas BHPA Registered School, The Algarve Airsports Centre in Lagos on the Algarve, Portugal. There I run my business (www.mahonyaviation.com) giving professional flying instruction in paragliding (hill & tow), paramotors, paratrikes as well as offering tandem flights, paramotor hire and overseas para-guiding to Spain & Slovenia.

I am a BHPA Senior Instructor teaching to the UK BHPA Tech Manual and am on the BHPA's Flight Safety Committee as the Paramotor Member. I also have a CAA Flying Instructor qualification offering tuition on 3-axis microlights to the UK NPPL syllabus and have a BMAA Powered Paraglider Instructor rating.

As well as teaching, I am also a dealer for Bailey Aviation, Dudek Paragliders, Miniplane Paramotors and Ozone flying equipment.

I have been paragliding since 1989 and paramotoring since 1996 with too many hours flying these simple aircraft to remember! I have competed at National & International level and have been the Meet Director at two UK National paramotor competitions.

Come on out to the Algarve and learn to fly whilst enjoying a holiday in this wonderful location! Guaranteed sunshine, blue skies and great scenery. Bring your partners out, too!

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum! It's great to hear from you.

You're right up at the top of my wish-list and I'm definitely going to find a way to get out to you in Portugal when weather, budget and work permit. I know that some of our guys went over to you to get their paramotor ratings and I intend following in their foot-steps.

Incidentally, I have a few pics of you in my photo albums on Fotki. They're from the Ozone Chabre Paragliding Open in Laragne last June. To see them go to:

Kind regards,

Hi Dara!!

Great to hear from you again! The photos of the Chabre Challenge brought it all back to me; that was a great week! The flying could have been better but the occasion was spot on.

Dara, anytime you want to come out to the Algarve, I'd be only too pleased to see you. Cathal, Chris and Declan all had a great time and worked very hard to get their BHPA SPHG assessment completed. I think they will especially remember their flight out to the new Formula 1 circuit and back along the beach to Lagos for a long while to come! There are some new photos on my gallery page showing the sort of scenery that you can expect to fly around if you come out here!

I have a few more Irish guys coming out here over the next couple of weeks including a Michael Halley (who wanted to paratrike but is taking up paramotoring first) and Dave Scully. I don't know if you know these guys?

Anyway, with a surname like mine (and Gerry Breen has Irish parents, too) and with my ancestors coming from Cork, I think you Irish guys have a sort of affinity with me! I hope to see more Irish pilots out here soon!

Take care, Dara,.............and Happy Landings!

Hi Johnny,

I think you probably saw Gerry's Breen's advert which was for the microlight school as we haven't amended the Free Newspaper ads yet to include all the things that I do at the airfield!

Just send us an email whenever you wish to come over and do some paramotoring! It will be good to see you.

Kind regards,

Paul
