Paramotor Insurance

To apply for an exemption to fly paramotor in Ireland you must carry a valid 3rd party insurance policy.

To the best of our knowledge, the only company providing paramotor Insurance in Ireland at present are On-Risk insurance.

http://www.onrisk.co.uk/

Paramotor, Paraglider and Hang Glider Insurance - what does it cover?

Onrisk Paramotor, Paraglider and Hang Glider Liability insurance covers legal liability for damages and legal costs arising out of third party loss, injury, or damage in connection with flying. Unlike many policies the cover can also apply whilst you are taking part in organised events and competitions. The premiums payable for Onrisk liability insurance are minimal compared to the damages that could be awarded as part of a liability settlement. Club and Group Paramotor, Paraglider and Hang Glider insurance is also available on request.

This is annual Paramotor, Paraglider and Hang Glider insurance cover for

Liability for accidental bodily injury to third parties (excluding passengers and 2nd pilots) and accidental loss of or damage to property

Coverage for Flying Instructors available up to £2million for Third Party Liability

Up to £5,000 cover for Search and Rescue costs incurred

Loss of or damage to equipment when not in flight including whilst in storage or in transit

Please note this is only a summary of the cover provided. Full detail of the cover is available in the Key Facts Document and Policy Wording which are available on request.

Apart from anything else, it is helpful to reasure the friendly farmers that we have adequite insurance to cover their generous offers of access to their land!

Lets hope none of us ever need to avail of the insurance cover!

Safe flying!

Seems a bit expensive  you should get a free quote online from:
http://www.sportscoverdirect.com/action ... portid=122

My insurance per annum is 50 GBP (about 65 euro)

Their paragliding category includes paramotoring, and the above link will give you all the details.

blue skys!

Pat.

PS - the policies are available to United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Republic of Ireland residents !

CORRECTION: I think i may have been to hasty recommending this one as it appears that the paramotoring insurance has a 3rd party exclusion to it !!

Pat, I think you're right here. There was much debate about this in the last forum and we concluded that the 3rd party cover was essential.
As far as I'm aware the only company that do this are Onrisk.
They do have varying degrees of cover- you can get the basic 3rd party only, or you can go for equipment cover also- though this is more expensive.

I'm just wondering though- would you be covered from theft if the powerunit was mounted externally to your vehicle?

See below:

Quotation from Sportscover for renewal of my premium for this year:

__________________________________________________________

SPORTSCOVER ANNUAL cover:

This policy is for: SportsGuard Employment Class A, Group 4, Silver Cover Total discount: 10%
All sports in group 4, 3, 2 and 1 including:

• Paramotoring (no liability) 3rd party Liability is excluded for motorised units.• Mountain biking - noncompetitive

• Kayaking (up to grade 3 / sea)

From Mon 14 Apr 2008 to Mon 13 Apr 2009.

A total of £80.46.

______________________________________________________

This was a policy we had last year, and only realised late in the summer that it was of little value for Paramotoring, as it gave no motorised third party cover!

Looks like Onrisk are the only option available to us at the present.

Oisin :)

Paramotor Insurance

Sports Cover direct great for paragliding but no 3rd party for paramotoring you just get very basic hospital cover etc the most valuable benefit in my opinion is SAR cover.
Found ON risk good to deal with I was surprised to see cover for noise legal liability should you find yourselve in court for noise problems.
So don't hang around for to long in the one spot and try not to fly into a headwind for long periods.

I had sportscover insurance for years for other sports and it is a very good basic cover policy ( not great for motor as you say)

I always felt it was great to have a policy which would cover payment to RNLI (lifeboat) or mountain rescue, both voluntary rescue services if you ever needed to be rescued...!

looks like onrisk is the way to go with paramotoring....though i must check with them the question that gordon highlighted regarding a motor attached to the rear of car like mine via a bakrak...would it be covered for theft as it is not actually inside the car? as we all know that insurance companies will split hairs to find anything to prevent them from paying out!!

What's a BAKRAK? Have you a photo? Sounds like something I was thinking about?

The BakRak is a fantastic device for attaching to your towbar - have a look at http://www.bak-rak.com

Image

The big advantage is that it can carry a huge amount of weight, with no extra support needed, like you would see with bike racks. I am in the process of getting a hardwood base fitted to it so i can simply set the motor on the base, screw 2 bars across it, and a cargo strap for extra piece of mind - no cage dismantling, and the bakrak raises the motor up a bit so getting it on is easier! and all for around 79 GBP....much cheaper than a trailer, and easier to reverse with :?

Brilliant Pat.

Do you plan to make a box for the gear, or have you a cover for your motor? Would handle bikes etc... I like it!
