long range tank

hi folks,
any ideas on where to locate 14lt tank for R120 and wihout need to modify frame?
HE price is €98 !! plus mod' requ'd to frame.

I think they are normally Kart tanks? Not sure if there is a suitable Kart shop you could try near you? This link seems to have only 9l tanks? Maybe someone with a Karting background might know?

Had thought of the option of adding a side tank or two to increase capacity slightly for long range flights? there are some suitable 3litre tanks here?

Interesting question- i always hear lots of people asking about larger tanks... but what's the longest time you've ever flown? Most machines are typically 3 to 4 lph.... I must admit that after a 2.5hr flight (max) i did feel like taking a rest for a while.

need to get replacement fuel tank anyway so thought having the longer range option makes sense :)

Just thinking there too- how many times have you seen a pilot taking off with a 12L tank full to the brim, at 1 hour before sunset?

I have taken off ( Kildare- September!) with about three litres for a quick half hour flight before it got dark.... landed in the field next door when I ran out of fuel a good hour+ later! Had to climb through a ditch and hedge in the dark, and good walk back to base!!.......... Lesson learnt. :oops:

Would be nice to have the option of a clip on additional tank for the odd long XC flight? Not that I have had many of these. 100k is generally about the furthest distance i have travelled on one tank full.

Nice one Oisin...... at least you admit this stuff.... I've also run out of fuel once, on my 3 or 4th flight i think... but successfully glided back to the field..... I think a part of the pilots skill though is estimating how much fuel you need for the flight and a suitable reserve quantiity- doing the flight without being over loaded. On zero wind days i really cut down on fuel to make the takeoff easy as possible.... On days with stronger winds, where i will be reversing- i tend to go a bit more generously with the fuel- generallly you need more in stronger winds anyway.

One thing to be said for a little extra fuel - 'Its better looking at it, than looking for it'

I have had discussions with Jason and Cathal about economy tasks in competitions, and this is one of the things i would like to be able to get better at judging. It is certainly one of the competition tasks that would be good for improving general flying skils. While competition bottles seem to be problematic, it is a nice idea, to be able to see the last drop of fuel in the system! And adds one more litre if you need it?

Another good thing about the competition bottle is that you use every last drop of fuel- the design of the standard tanks, with their flat base is not ideal- they should have a conical shaped bottom in theory, with the clunk at the bottom. You'd be surprised what volume of fuel in a standard tank cannot be used due to the movement/swaying of the machine.... generally i don't land with any less than a litre (20mins) in the tank.
