The renewal process is very simple- just phone the IAA licencing department, quote your exemption number and pay your 25Euro renewal fee and it's done- they accept credit card.

Just got mine renewed. Very simple and straighforward., with very helpfull staff in IAA.

No word on when a license will be coming in, only that it is still on the way.

Hi Oisin,

I was at the NMAI Safety Seminar in Tullamore on 16-Mar and Kevin Swords from the IAA was one of the speakers. I'm a member of NMAI.

Kevin stated that paratrikes were microlights because they had wheels and he also said that there was no definition of paratrikes. I explained to Kevin (at the meeting) that this was not the case and that the FAI in Lausanne explicitly classified paramotors (PF) and paratrikes (PL) as microlights and that the PF and PL classes competed together at the international competitions (although in separate classes). There is a strong case for regulating paratrikes (with wheels) and paramotors as similar classes of aviation. This especially relevant as many paratrikes are simply paramotors mounted on lightweight trike chassis.

I was chatting to Kevin afterwords and he confirmed to me what Paul McMahon of NMAI had already told me i.e. that the IAA was in discussion with NMAI on the issue of PPCs (i.e. powered parachutes AKA paratrikes). Let's watch this space!
